Our client is an established life insurance provider holding strong market share and a quality portfolio of products and services. The Company places strong value on its human resources, which has consistently acted as catalyst for its development and growth. They are now looking to recruit a Chief Actuary with expertise in Life insurance to form part of their senior management team. Chief Actuary - Life MT 4773/11 The role of Chief Actuary – Life forms part of the senior management team with direct accountability to the CEO and the Board of Directors. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up the Company’s actuarial policy and strategic direction, overseeing the operational activities and coordinating a small and dedicated actuarial team in its activities. Working in close collaboration with the team professionals, you will be called to offer strategic recommendations following review of financial outcomes and projections. You will be expected to develop and refine reporting tools for data handling and contribute actively in the setting up of the long-term Company goals and objectives. In this position, you will be responsible for the annual and mid-term statutory valuations and value calculations and you will be directly involved in the design and development of new products. You will also be developing financial business plan and forecasts, as well as generation of end-of-month reports. As Chief Actuary you will be mentoring and developing the actuarial team identifying strengths and competencies as well as areas of weakness warranting additional training. You will also be expected to ensure that team members communicate and interact effectively with the other company executives, shareholders, public entities and staff members of the Company. The role calls for a seasoned actuarial professional, holding an Actuarial qualification such as a Fellowship from the Institute of Actuaries or equivalent. In addition the person must hold at least five years work experience in an actuarial management role following qualification. Previous experience in with-profits operations will be considered an asset for this role. The person must hold exceptional numerical skills as well as good communication and people management skills. An ability to analyse, review and synthesise information, as well as the ability to think creatively in line with compliance requirements is important for this role. The person should be trustworthy and possess a high level of moral integrity.
